Located 417 km from Asunción, in the city of Salto del Guairá, it comprises 1,436 hectares of forests bordered by the imposing reservoir of the Itaipú Hydroelectric Plant. It stands as a global example of forest restoration, and throughout its extension it is covered by native vegetation, with great richness in fauna and flora. A total of 257 bird species have been recorded, including several vulnerable ones.

It is the largest reserve in the eastern region of the country. It is the main remnant of the Atlantic Forest in Paraguay and also contains large areas of the Cerrado ecosystem. With remarkable richness in flora and fauna, including 354 bird species, it is home to the bellbird (Procnias nudicollis), the national bird symbol of Paraguay.
