Bolivia, from the puna to the lowlands
Bolivia is one of the most unusual countries in South America, although one of the least visited by birders due to the remoteness of some birding sites. But with a good itinerary and proper ground logistics, it is easy to enjoy birding and admire the spectacular landscapes of this amazing, untamed country.
With over 50 species of parrots, Bolivia sits among the best destinations for psittacines. Iconic species such as the Blue-throated Macaw and Red-fronted Macaw are endemic to Bolivia.
Other fascinating bird species, many of them unmistakable, include toucans and rheas, endangered monteritas, the Titicaca Flightless Grebe, Bolivian Blackbird, Bolivian Slaty-Antshrike, Bolivian Earthcreeper, Unicolored Thrush, Red-legged Seriema, the tiny Black-hooded Sunbeam and the huge… Giant Hummingbird! to name a few.
